Discussions at beneficiary household level consistently show that women (60%) have benefited in diverse ways from SLCC interventions. Traditionally seen as complementing the role of men and providers of labour in rural agriculture, women are been empowered by our interventions as they occupy important decision-making levels in the cooperatives. Eleven of the cooperatives are almost exclusively women managed with opportunities for them to articulate activities based on their needs and priorities. Meanwhile, the SLCC will continue to engage local authorities and decentralized duty bearers (paramount chiefs and the district agricultural department) to ensure that women have significant access to land and other productive resources in the district.
