Half of Kono district have had its environment and ecology blig hted by over 80 years of uncontrolled artisanal and large-scale mining activities rendering some communities with little or no land for agricultural activities. For this purpose, the SLCC adopted a development approach that is accompanied by considerations to make beneficiary communities become more aware about the impact of environmental degradation on the livelihood of smallholder farmers in the district. In addition to integrating environmental awareness messages during our regular radio discussions and during farmer trainings, we will continue to encourage our farmers to practice mix-cropping methods and organic fertilization to ensure the retention of soil nutrients
